  • About ZeroThree
the formative years of big business I T the resultant benefits today are staggering As ZeroThree grew sales volumes of the Apple Macintosh started growing at an incredible and exponential rate in line with demand as a comparison in 1992 back in the UK a 1Gb yes 1Gb 1000Mb External Hard Disk from LaCie was the thing to have after a SyQuest Optocal drive costing as much as a current 2012 12Tb Promise External Thunderbolt Drive That demand was mainly in print and design as the industry itself seemed to have an infinite amount of cash to do things faster and better and the association with the Apple Macintosh product itself was already becoming massively credible and recognised As soon as the PowerMac 8100 AV was released we immediately created a new channel in Central England into AV Production with the PowerMac 8100 and then 8500 being capable of capturing digital video and also if given enough RAM And by that I mean up to 16Mb yes 16Mb not even 256Mb that everyone would spit at these days the PowerMac was even capable of some pretty cool 3D animation that became another high demand area in corporate digital video so we immediately started doing just that with a program called Infini D Simultaneously we opened a second specialised distribution and production channel in Video using the Apple Mac as a platform At around the same time usable laptops emerged namely the Powerbook 5300cs and then the 5300c There was a big difference between these two The CS has a passive matrix screen meaning refresh rates were rubbish and any moving graphics became all blurry not a bad effort though for the first colour LCD screen ever released on a laptop And then very shortly afterwards came the 5300c This has the Active Matrix display and was pretty much the start of the LCD screen revolution Armed with this laptop demand in the field sales area went through the roof as larger companies who could afford it armed their sales forces with this Mac Progression and our first main move to London Resulting from an extremely prolific grape vine in the UK we progressed into London with demand for installations into recording studios video edit facilities and design production going skywards Completely overwhelmed by demand and work we began to centralise our resources and decided not to expand as everyone else was and instead retain the area of our business that had taken us so far a close friendly available extremely efficient and an extremely low cost service our customers prefer It wasnt really rocket science to work out that whilst everyone else out there was busting a gut to try and sell as many boxes as possible opening up shop after shop as forgetting the important factor that made us what we are today and in fact the rock of any sucessful business and that s good old fashioned real service and never forgetting it is our customers who are

  • Why Solid State Disks (SSD)
a little metal shell with what pretty much looks like a mini record player inside There s a spindle a stylus and metallic disks that spin The drive is a machanical bit of equipment that spins very fast the slowest will spin at 4200rpm the fastest 12500rpm the fastest are very expensive even in todays age Laptops use a 2 5 drive type and are limited to a max speed of 7200rpm Desktops can take a 3 5 drive and therefore you can install drives up to 12500rpm The faster the drive the faster everything you do on your computer will be In between the normal HDD and the latest SSD s is an intermediate options called the Hybrid The Seagate Momentus XT 2 5 drive is one of these These drives are about 85 faster that a 7200rpm normal HDD 2 5 drive In terms of performance therefore they are an incredible option at a very low price when compared to the relative performance increase and an excellent option in Mac Mini and Mac laptops all of these drives are available on the website when you hit customise next to the Mac Mini or MacBook Pro that you choose have a play the Zerothree website gives you live pricing and totals your options up for you The Hybrid drive uses a combination of a tiny bit of SSD and a normal HDD mechanism this is how ot is able to deliver such a performance increase However there is a downside to any mechanical drive and it is the very nature of the fact that the drive has moving parts that is the problem There is a limit to how fast something that is spinning with a stylus shooting back and forth can deliver data to your computers processor there is also a limit to it s life as the bearings and other moving parts wear out there is a very fine line between how much that drive can move before it errors something that is very important in a laptop for example Although shock protection is built in it s not failsafe and with that neither is your Data and everything else you treasure on your drive So the SSD The Solid State Disk is as it sounds solid No moving parts at all SSD s use chips instead of spinning disks Advantages are immeasurable They have no moving parts therefore don t wear out They make no whirring sounds as all other HDD s do They are far lighter that HDD s and they draw much less power than and more importanly they are so fast you will not recognise your Mac compared to the same Mac with even a Hybrid drive let alone a standard HDD Keeping things really simple and easy to understand the faster a drive is capable of getting the info YOU request from the Hard Drive to the PROCESSOR where your computer translates your request into doing stuff the faster your computer can

  • Analogue and Digital TV Explained
a Television Signal Analogue is what we re all historically used to whether you know what it means or not In it simplest form imagine 2 people holding a bit of rope say 10 meters apart one person waves their arm up and down whilst holding the rope and a wave travels down that rope and if you keep doing it the waves continue the longer the distance the harder it is to send a wave to the other end and so you have to really wave that rope heaps to make the wave get to the other end Imagine inside that wave in the rope itself you have your TV signals at close range they get from A B easily but further away they get blurry We ve all had that with our TV s right Lots of noise or fuzziness on the screen can t quite tune to that channel Weak reception Thats what happens when you re a little too far away from the source of the signal source or transmitter The same applies to normal radio The advantage of Analogue TV used to be that the signal can be sent further more easily so used to be suited to long distances before the digital age enabled the same far more efficiently Now imagine the same 2 people with that rope again Substitute the rope in the last example for simply being able to see each other If they can both see each other call that a 1 on for being able to see each other If either person cannot see the other call that a 0 off That s digital transmission With Analogue there is no clear boundary between on and off there s just a fuzzy zone as the signal weakens With digital it is simply working or not working 1 or 0 There is no in between So if the digital signal reaches you it is as perfect as it can get regardless of how strong the signal This is a little simplistic yes as you can indeed receive a weak digital signal but the same still applies the signal will either work or not work no fuzzy bit in the same way as Analogue The channel is either perfectly clear on your TV or it is not there at all Sometimes you might see a pause on your screen or a bunch of weird coloured squares pop up and maybe some weird squeaky sounds and then the picture returns this happens when the signal isn t quite strong enough most of the time though this is actually what is being sent from the other end and then broadcast to you TV companies especially in live broadcasts use very high tech digital transmission to send a live picture from a football field for example or from an F1 Car to a TV Truck closeby where they assemble the images and send them via satellite to you In this chain there s lots of chances

  • Macs in Business
an over complicated PC world although exist in the Mac world are largely irrelevant and lets face it who cares about that stuff anyway apart from techno heads The Mac is designed to plug in and that s it No fiddling no opening the case to try and tweak this upgrade that It just works straight out of the box The software on the Mac gives you things no other PC can or does give you And that s all I ll say on the matter because it is no more complicated than that We use PC s at work now but have considered moving to Macs but it all seems too complex and everyone tells us they won t work That is the statement that is perhaps one of the most frequently heard And it s simply because the awareness of Macs is growing so fast the iPhone being a large catalyst in this Macs are everywhere mainly in homes and schools and the aforementioned businesses Increasingly what is happening is our customers are taking their Macs to work And what happens then well depending on the size of the organisation it makes people generally say Wow it s a Mac yet your eMail works you can access our databases you can create pdf s with no additional software from any application you can edit photo s read and write PC documents surf the Interweb etc etc Amazing hey And your contacts calendars and eMail are all functioning with our corporate Exchange server What In some organisations IT departments will flatly deny the use of Macs simply because they have not been used in that environment before or those departments have no personnel trained to support Macs The facts are that a Mac will do pretty much all mainstream tasks a PC will do in a corporate environment And if there s something it won t do and that s unlikely you can run Windows on your Mac Misconception over how a Mac can play an equal role in the workplace are compounded by many Telco s here in Australia We spend heaps of time helping people who by 3G Broadband modems or cable or ADSL modems with Telco s who don t support Macs What they seem to miss is the fact that most of these devices have nothing to do with the computer they are connected to and pretty much ALL are configured via a web browser Using a Mac web browser or a PC web browser is no different at all Our network has Exchange servers Domain Controllers and Active Directory so we cannot use Macs Wrong Plain and Simple Mac OS 10 6 Snow Leopard has 100 Exchange support straight out of the box No additional licenses need to be purchased to add users Wow Your eMail calendars contacts will all Sync Your Blackberry or iPhone will flawlessly Sync Your network file shares VPN services will all work straight out of the box I am

  • Windows on your Mac
everything There are the odd exceptions of course but unlike the PC which is not able to read some Mac files or run mac Applications the Mac can run Windows properly and therefore ALL of your PC Apps And if that s not enough you may think okay I do want to take the plunge if you can call it that and get a Mac but my I T department dont support Macs or perhaps you re worried if things go wrong you wont know what to do Well Not here On the first point and we get this all the time some companies mainly Telco s and some smaller corporates don t bother training or telling their I T support staff that there is NO technical difference between the way a Mac accesses a Network and that s largely to do with training and exams that broadly qualify techs in one way or the other not from experienced I T personnel who have learnt on the job and who s experience is gained actually working with Macs and PC s which is what ZeroThree have been doing for 18 years now the Internet eMail Web Browsing no technical differences AT ALL None Sure the menu s are much easier to use on the Mac and some screens don t look exactly the same as Windows but that s it That is the ONLY difference I T departments can get very very lazy and very Windows Centric with some support staff so set in their ways they will simply say sorry Mac s don t work and we don t support them as they feel that it takes them out of their comfort zone or simply have never used one as per comments above Buy your Mac from Zerothree and you get our 24 7 tech support Call us next time and you find out how good your new Mac really is Even if you are putting it into a Windows environment And on point 2 we ll help you through any transition so it really is not an issue at all We ve helped heaps of people across and have had not one single customer or company regret it and that speaks for itself Software you choose below such as Parallels and VMWare Fusion help you very easily migrate your PC in its entirety to your Mac it will look the same you ll have all of your Data and it ll work oin the same way only faster Running Windows on your Mac It s important of course to note that although both OS s work astoundingly well on the Mac way faster than most PC s on the streets today largely due to the across the board introduction of Intel s latest offerings immediately into all Macs it is in no way supported by Apple And quite rightly The Mac OS on it s own will do pretty much everything Windows will people rarely believe that but
