  • Woolworths - $1 million boost for Salvos Queensland flood relief efforts from Woolies and its customers
    at an event attended by Mr Paul Neville MP Federal Member for Hinkler and Mr Jack Dempsey MP Minister for Police and Community Safety and State Member for Bundaberg Woolworths began accepting customer donations to The Salvation Army s Disaster Relief Appeal just after the floods and promised to match donations dollar for dollar with an aim of donating 1 million Salvation Army officer Major Kevin Unicomb said On behalf of the families who are so in need of help at this time we thank Woolies and their customers The emotional and physical scarring to many communities is now clear with homes destroyed and families uprooted This 1 million donation from Woolworths and its customers will go a long way to helping families across flood affected areas in Queensland and northern NSW on the road to recovery The Salvation Army s Major Glenn Whittaker said the funds would be used to provide both immediate and long term support This assistance has initially included meals water as well as emotional support to families and individuals in need Going forward however we will also be providing grants to families to help them rebuild their lives Woolworths and The Salvation Army have a strong relationship and have worked together for over three years providing disaster relief to Australian communities Woolworths State Support Manager for Queensland Mr Scott Wallace said I m really pleased at this fantastic joint effort from ourselves and our customers which will enable the continuation of the important work the Salvos are doing to help flood affected communities recover This donation of 1 million isn t the end with Woolworths register still accepting donations Woolworths has also been assisting with relief efforts on the ground providing food and water to those in need and ensuring that employees affected are being

    the choice of three varieties full cream and reduced fat homogenised milk and full cream unhomogenised milk with the cream on top just the way the farmers like it Ziggy Kwarcinski General Manager of Fresh Food at Woolworths said Farmers Own is a great tasting fresh milk with a richer fuller flavour and we think our customers will love to drink it while supporting their local farmers We are trialling a direct relationship with the Manning Valley Dairy Farmers to give farmers a better deal for their milk and customers a great new product range Woolworths has a proud history of supporting local farmers We recognise that there are a variety of significant issues affecting Australia s dairy industry and this trial could be a model that will enhance the long term sustainability of the dairy sector We ve worked closely with the farmers to develop a product that not only tastes great but gives them end to end transparency from shed to shelf a longer term contract and a closer relationship with their customers This trial will not be the silver bullet to fix all the problems but we think it could herald a new way of delivering better returns to farmers and a more efficient supply chain said Mr Kwarcinski Manning Valley dairy farmer Tim Bale said This trial is providing a much better deal for us It s allowed us to secure longer term contracts which will give us the confidence to invest in our businesses for a better long term future There s no doubt that consumers recognise that farmers deserve a fair price for what we produce We hope Woolies customers in the Manning Valley area will support Farmers Own it s fresh locally produced and tastes great said Mr Bale Woolworths has had direct

    available on tobacco products In recent years both State and Federal Government have increased the regulation of tobacco products with initiatives such as plain packaging and display bans now in force across the country Victoria has passed laws and become the first state to ban staff discounts on tobacco products from early 2013 and we expect other states will consider similar legislation To ensure consistent treatment for all employees Woolworths has taken the decision to remove the staff discount for tobacco and smoking related purchases nationally The discount will be automatically removed at the checkout tobacco and smoking related products do not need to be purchased separately from products eligible for staff discount Why has Woolworths removed the staff discount on tobacco purchases Victoria has passed laws and become the first state to ban staff discounts on tobacco products from early 2013 and we expect other states will consider similar legislation To ensure consistent treatment for all employees Woolworths has taken the decision to remove the staff discount for tobacco and smoking related purchases nationally When is the discount being removed The staff discount on tobacco purchased will be removed from Woolworths Supermarkets BIG W Petrol and Liquor from January 22 nd 2013 What happens if I buy other products in the same transaction as tobacco products The staff discount will be applied to all products that are eligible for staff discount Products that do not contain tobacco like lighters filters cigar cutters and paper for cigarettes will continue to receive the staff discount Is the staff discount also being removed from Nicabate products No Woolworths continues to provide our Employee Quit Program including a discount on Nicabate products Additional support is also available via www icanquit com au Quit Line 131 848 Share on Facebook Tweet this Bookmark at
