    Our Growers Send to a friend Print Recipes Rustic Onion Bread Preparation time 1 1 2 hours Cooking time 35 minutes Serves Makes 1 loaf Created by Ingredients 12g sachet instant yeast mix Rapid rise 1 tsp caster sugar 1 cup warm water 3 1 2 cups plain flour 2 tsp salt 2 tbs olive oil 30g butter 1 large onion sliced 2 tsp olive oil extra Rosemary sprigs Sea salt and pepper Method Stir yeast and sugar into half the water Set aside for 10 minutes until foamy Sift flour and half the salt into a large mixing bowl Make a well in the centre Add yeast mixture olive oil and enough of the remaining water until a soft dough forms Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes or until the dough is soft and elastic Transfer to a clean lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap Leave to rise in a draught free place for about an hour or until doubled in size Meanwhile melt butter in a large frying pan over medium heat Add onions and remaining salt Cook for 15 minutes stirring occasionally until onions are golden Cool When dough has doubled punch the dough to deflate Add onions and mix well through the dough Oil a large baking tray and press the dough out to 20 x 30cm rectangle Brush with extra olive oil Push rosemary sprigs into dough and sprinkle with salt and pepper Cover with a tea towel and leave for 15 minutes Preheat oven to 200 degrees celsius 5 Bake bread for 20 minutes or until top is golden and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped Serve hot straight from the oven or leave to cool on a rack and serve Tip Nutritional Information Per Serve
