    third of Woolworths 850 supermarkets are now of the highest energy efficiency standards Since our program commenced in 2007 75 new green Woolworths supermarkets have been constructed and 200 existing stores have undergone green technology refurbishments This refurbishment program known as Project CO2 has now been extended to other key business divisions with Petrol BIG W and BWS implementing green store standards Back in 2007 Woolworths identified sustainability as a key area we would focus on as a business priority Mr Hall said This broad strategy included setting a target to reduce carbon emission from our facilities by 40 per cent by 2015 and a 25 per cent reduction per carton delivered by Woolworths owned trucks by 2012 Woolworths has a dedicated Group Engineering Team who identify research trial and implement energy efficient low carbon technology in stores across our business divisions Woolworths sees this investment in energy efficiency as an opportunity Over the last four years we have significantly reduced our carbon footprint This will enable us to minimise any impact to our customers when a carbon price takes effect next year to ensure we can continue to offer our customers value and to provide a good return to our shareholders All up 55 million of investment in energy efficient technology since 2007 will deliver approximately 93 million in savings to the business by 2015 Mr Hall said The Woolworths supermarket green format showcases the supermarket of the future with an emphasis on fresh food and sustainable technology Energy efficient lighting and low energy refrigeration is used throughout the store Meanwhile blinds descend over the fresh produce fridges at night trapping the cold air inside hot air from fridges is used for heating and air conditioning is better regulated throughout the store While supermarkets have been the focus our

    every community and are needed to help maintain community spirit and well being I m sure every recipient of these funds and each member joins with me in thanking every person who donated This donation of more than two million dollars will provide assistance to around 25 per cent of the groups registered for help though Join Forces and is a significant step in helping communities build back stronger and better than before At the height of the summer disasters Woolworths BIG W and Dick Smith stores collected donations from customer at checkouts totalling 10 3million On top of this Woolworths Limited donated 9 15million taking the total contribution to almost 19 5million Woolworths and the Salvation Army worked with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority through its Join Forces program to identify community groups in need and to administer the funds In total 58 organisations across Queensland will receive grants to repair or replace damage to equipment and infrastructure caused by the disasters Examples include 100 000 to the Bundaberg Netball Association to repair damaged courts replace the court lighting and PA system and refit the canteen and administration building 85 000 to the Rockhampton Cricket Club to help with the repairs to the oval and facilities 21 000 to Brisbane City Youth Ballet to replace costumes destroyed in the Brisbane floods Woolworths Chief Executive Officer Michael Luscombe said Woolworths was pleased to be able to help support Queenslanders in need The support our customers gave to help those affected by the floods has been inspirational Mr Luscombe said Our donation is going a long way to help ease the crisis many families continue to face all across the country Major Paul Moulds from The Salvation Army said there was still a lot of work to do and The Salvation Army
