    use to put forward ideas with full anonymity Being innovative requires taking action will you 3 If you don t have any ideas look within Innovation can t simply be activated by the flick of a switch you need to brainstorm ideas think about problems you face at work and how they can be improved or changed for the better For example in my last job I would usually be so over whelmed with work that I barely had time to check my emails I would get over 100 a day I worked in procurement and the customer service team would regularly send me emails asking for the value of particular products or ETAs of certain stock Sometimes they needed answers within 30 minutes but as I didn t have time to check my emails they never received an answer This was a problem I faced in my role and I knew it needed to be fixed Solution I had a polite chat with the customer service manager and told him that if any of the customer service team needed answers within the hour to come up to my desk and I would get them there and then because I m usually too busy and fail to check my emails every hour This was such a simple solution but increased the company s level of customer service tenfold Find a problem you face on a daily basis and figure out a way to tackle it 4 Have a positive attitude Research has proven that a positive attitude can help aid creativity and innovation If you hate work or have any negative feelings towards it the blame doesn t lie within the work but within you Being positive or negative is just a mindset that is based around how your mind

  • The Importance of team work
    this conference was a softly spoken Argentinian who had everyone on the edge of their seat Nothing showy no rah rah just brilliant heart felt messages It was a pleasure to be listening and absorbing VisualFunk Graphic Facilitation The importance of Team One of his messages that struck home for me and inspired the above image was the importance of team The word team work team building team development is so often mentioned with rolled eyes and a bad memory of some team bonding experience The facilitators message was simple The key points were The human race naturally seeks human interaction and companionship The world has progressed because of people interacting and working together You can achieve more by working together with others It feels great to be part of a team Everyone in the audience today can achieve success by collaborating with others It was just such a simple message but it really made the point Teams are important We progress through achieving with others That s not to say that you can t achieve great things in isolation There is mountains of research around how working alone can achieve outstanding results and this is proved time and time

    impression that you really value your values That they are important That your company is really passionate about them If you are employee anywhere in the company how well do you know what your values are Where are they Do they excite you Do you refer to them when Well Picture this Live DJ grafitti artists live drawing colour great food harbour side location Sounds like a great party right In many ways yes but this was part of a recent values launch that I was lucky enough to be involved in with Eight Steps West And it was an absolute blast Graphic Communication VisualFunk Values Launch There was a sense of excitement in the air This wasn t dry it wasn t boring it wasn t driven by PowerPoint and bad lighting Short punchy and passionate presentations that I was capturing live and being beamed onto a screen The music being mixed was themed to the values Graffiti artists were creating live value themed artworks that would hang in the office There was a buzz in the air that you would find at the best party you have been to Everyone s senses were on fire This was an event And what did everyone leave knowing We value you our staff You are important The values we have are huge for us We value them Incredibly so We want you to embrace our cultural shift and the energy we have created today moving forward Not your average values launch Everyone left with a huge smile on their face There was a shared sense of purpose People were alive The values were alive I have been involved in so many values launches but this was amazing My big learns were that if you really value something and have a key

  • VisualFunk Innovation Hub: A look at Innovation in Pictures
    engaged excited energised and making breakthroughs in a short amount of time I believe that creativity and innovation are verbs or action words and as such innovative behaviours drive innovative thinking and results As such the day was more than just throwing everyone in the room with some creative thinking tools and saying go for it VisualFunk put together a day that combined a bunch of different approaches to stimulate the senses disrupt thinking open everyone s eyes to the world around them embrace freshness and still provide some structure to gain new perspectives when you are stuck at your desk As such the day included improv theatre photography graphic facilitation and learning to draw live instagram and twitter feeds music plenty of movement and structured thinking sessions To make it real every team had to present their ideas with a peer voting system that put the best ideas live on stage presenting to the shark tank No use in keeping great ideas hidden Given the power of visual communication in keeping ideas alive we created an overview of the guidelines principles and behaviours we encouraged on the day that I wanted to share Just to be clear do I believe this a definitive guide to innovation No not at all Many people will claim that they have the definitive answer model or approach for innovation but just like people innovation and creativity are alive They have a heart beat Different approaches work for different scenarios places organisations and people This is just a capture of what we did on this particular day What are your thoughts on the best way to kick start innovation What are the essentials to have in an innovation day Would love to hear your thoughts Download this infographic Embed Our Infographic On Your Site
