    tour with a majority of matches commencing at 7am to avoid the scorching Indian heat EMP s first match against the Delhi Women s State team saw the girls take to the field first for the hottest day on record since 1945 Restricting the home team to 124 off their 20 overs EMP s batters succumbed to the heat posting a total of 91 Eager to familiarise themselves with the conditions before their next encounter with Delhi EMP took to the field again that evening Taking on the Viceroy s XI a team comprising Australian High Commission staff and media personnel EMP bowlers and DEC Spirit players Briana Binch 2 18 and Kristen Beams 3 wickets struck hard Viceroy were still able to amass 163 with EMP falling short again all out for 126 The girls final match against Delhi resulted in another loss but a trip to Chennai saw a strong EMP bowling attack take out a convincing 6 wicket win against the Chennai Women s State team Captain Molly Strano impressed with her leadership and quick fire 50 which assisted in her team s dominance throughout the match The touring party will travel to Mumbai tomorrow in preparation

    an outstanding debut season for Plenty Valley The wicket keeper bat scored 512 runs at an average of 64 hitting five 50s and one century along the way The night began with the announcement of two newly named awards VWCA Life Members Sue Woolcock and Julie Jones were honoured with the naming of two Premier Seconds awards The award for the Most Consistent Premier Seconds player has recently been named the Sue Woolcock Award whilst the Premier Seconds Premiership Cup was named The Julie Jones Trophy The inaugural winner of the Sue Woolcock Award was Coburg s Moelagi Tuilagi A great all round season by Tuilagi saw her score 204 runs and take 19 wickets the highest in the Premier Seconds competition Tuilagi took out the award just one vote ahead of teammate Lyndal McMaster and three votes clear of Brown Hill s Briony Polkinghorne A Premier Firsts Team of the Year was named for the third time with six first time selections Box Hill and DEC Spirit skipper Rachael Haynes was named Captain of the team The Frank McDonald Award for the Most Promising Schoolgirl went to Brittany McVeigh from Box Hill whilst Brighton District s Jenny Riley took

    early boundaries but the employment of leg spinner Kristen Beams brought on immediate results Stumped and stranded for 31 off just 26 balls Lanning s reign ended when she attempted to come down the wicket to Beams second delivery Haynes departed in the following over caught by Nicola Hancock off Emma Kearney s first over and when Kate Dempsey departed the same way as Lanning in the next the Mustangs were struggling at 3 50 From there the Box Hill innings lost its momentum and despite some resistance from Casey Hawley 16 and Rebecca Carter 22no Box Hill were bowled out for 118 Kristen Beams 2 11 Clea Smith 3 29 and Cassie Brock 3 24 were EMP s best bowlers whilst wicket keeper Candace Hulett snared four stumpings In reply Brock 21 and Molly Strano 15 got EMP away to a bright start putting on 43 for the first wicket before Penelope Cleghorn got the breakthrough dismissing Brock thanks to a great catch by Haynes at short cover Wickets to Lanning and Shaw saw EMP slump to 3 67 but any dreams of a miraculous comeback were thwarted when Emily McIntyre 21no and Briana Binch 24no came to the crease The two inched the Bombers closer to victory and in the 29th over McIntyre swept for four to secure the Premiership for her club Cassie Brock for her 21 runs and 3 24 was adjudged the winner of the Betty Wilson Medal for player of the final In the Premier Seconds competition Brown Hill took out the title with a convincing win over Coburg at Camberwell on Saturday Coburg got away to an excellent start with an opening stand of 51 between openers Lyndal McMaster 20 and Rebecca Allen 26 Brown Hill s Karen Casey 4 14 soon put

    and posted an impressive 5 161 thanks largely to a cavalier 74 from teenager Meg Lanning The 18 year old s innings came in just 56 balls and underpinned Victoria s 5 161 Lanning s knock included seven fours and a six The right hander received vital support from team mates Jess Cameron 26 from 20 balls and Sarah Elliott 23 from 23 balls The match went down to the final ball where NSW needed a six for victory But last year s runners up could only manage two runs as they finished on 9 157 Victoria looked like cruising to victory before Leah Poulton belted 76 from just 45 balls But Lanning again had a significant impact on the match when she took a diving catch at deep midwicket to dismiss the dangerous Poulton That dismissal in the 16th over triggered a collapse of 5 18 which ultimately left the Breaker s tail enders with too much to do during the final overs It was the first of two finals the Breakers and Victoria will contest this summer Next Saturday February 12 they meet again in the 50 over competition final at the SCG NSW are the defending champions
