and Lynsey Askew 69 However the ACT were rocked early by the bowling of Molly Strano 1 20 losing Hungerford who was instrumental in the Meteors win yesterday afternoon Askew and Sara McGlashan 14 responded immediately for the home side slashing five boundaries to raise the score to 1 33 at the end of the fifth over But when Beams entered the attack to replace Strano she struck twice in five deliveries to dismiss the dangerous McGlashan and Meteors captain Kris Britt for a duck On the back foot at 3 33 ACT batsmen Rhiannon Dick 11 entered the fray and together with Askew they continued to counter punch in an attempt to work their way out of trouble adding 36 runs to the total during the next four overs of play But Beams came back into the attack and struck again this time with the wicket of Dick who was caught by Meg Lanning at wide mid on The run rate consequently slowed as VicSpirit gained the ascendency in the match but Askew continued to hold the remaining of innings together despite the loss key batsman She combined with Rene Farrell 17 for a 41 run sixth wicket partnership that enabled the Meteors to achieve a commendable 121 run total at the close of innings The VicSpirit never looked in danger of chasing down the total however when Lanning 31 and Elyse Villani 31 came out of the sheds in aggressive style Lanning struck two sixes and combined for six boundaries in her opening partnership with Villani as VicSpirit got on the front foot and made use of the fielding restrictions at 0 42 after five overs Only Askew 1 19 and Browne 1 10 could manage to claim scalps to remove the Victorian openers for the Meteors as

  • VicSpirit stunned by ACT Meteors - VicSpirit
VicSpirit keeping their wickets in tact at 0 72 after 20 overs the Meteors had kept the Victorians to an uncharacteristic run rate of three and a half runs per over before the pressure to lift the rate eventually took its toll Bolton Villani Cameron all fell within the space of 11 balls with Rhiannon Dick taking two wickets and becoming the beneficiary of disciplined bowling from Katherine Pulford 1 32 and Farrell in the opening stages of the innings With the VicSpirit on the back foot at 3 81 in the 23rd over Lanning made her way to the crease with Molly Strano 20 in an attempt to regain momentum for the Victorians But the Meteors bowlers continued to bowl as a cohesive unit with just one boundary scored in the next nine overs between the two VicSpirit batsmen Looking to up the ante both Strano and Lanning proceeded to fall to the bowling of Bates in the 32nd and 36th over respectively leaving the VicSpirit reeling at 5 129 However an impressive cameo from Kelly Applebee 43 gave her team some hope playing with positive intent to lead the VicSpirit to 10 205 at the close of innings In response the Meteors had a nervy start with Sara Hungerford 41 offered a lifeline early in her innings as a wicket taking opportunity was grassed off the bowling of Emma Kearney 1 31 in the second over But she made the Victorians pay thereafter nailing seven boundaries and stamping her authority as she led the ACT s charge A misunderstanding in the eighth over saw fellow Meteors opener Laura Wright 14 run out to give the VicSpirit their first wicket of the day resulting in Sara McGlashan 62 finding her way out to the middle Anchoring the innings McGlashan
