  • Villani powers VicSpirit to victory - VicSpirit
won the toss and elected to bat with Villani and Meg Lanning continuing their aggressive mindset from yesterday s WT20 with the pair putting on 83 before Lanning was caught for 49 56 Lanning s wicket triggered a worrying collapse as Jess Cameron 7 Sarah Elliott 0 Emma Inglis 3 and Applebee 9 fell with Scorpions spinner Hannah Perry the chief destroyer with 4 45 Villani began to put the pressure back on the South Australians as she put on 57 runs with Briana Binch 21 for the sixth wicket She reached her second WNCL century from just 110 deliveries and increased the scoring rate after partnering Emily McIntyre 24 as the visitors climbed to 8 275 I had great support from Meg Lanning at the start of the innings and I m really enjoying batting with her Villani said In the past I ve gotten off to a quick start and have then gotten out so it was really pleasing to be able to bat through the innings which I haven t done before The bowlers backed up the work we did with the bat and Emma Kearney in particular was impressive on debut She bowled down wind and with good pace so it was great to be able to support her on debut We started the season quite poorly last year and that carried through for the rest of the season so we wanted to set the tone from the outset and hopefully we can finish the weekend with a clean sweep The Scorpions were immediately behind the required run rate with opener Tahlia McGrath unable to get Kearney away eventually succumbing for one from 42 deliveries The spin duo of Kristen Beams 3 14 and Elliott 3 4 then ripped through the South Australians middle order Julie

  • Lanning crowned world’s best - VicSpirit
held the position since October 2012 VicSpirit teammate Jess Cameron remains steady at number eight while Julie Hunter has slipped eight places to number 12 on the bowling rankings Having assumed the Australian captaincy following a fractured finger to Jodie Fields Lanning guided the Southern Stars to a 4 2 record but it wasn t enough to reclaim the Ashes after dropping the Test match which was worth six points Despite winning more games than the English this summer the weighted points system ensured the visitors triumphed 10 8 You could fix that by giving more points to the ODIs Lanning said Perhaps two ODI victories is similar to a Test match win I think for a Test match to be worth six points compared to the two is a lot considering we don t play many Test matches at all It s something to look into I m not sure what s going to happen but I m sure other people will take care of that Lanning will now turn her attention to the WT20 with the 21 year old poised to open the batting during tomorrow s semi final against Queensland in Sydney To see a full list
