    some young talent to rise through the ranks In an exciting development rookie Molly Strano who had just returned from the Essendon Maribyrnong Ladies CC tour of India has been offered a full contract Opening batter Strano coming off her third season playing in the Premier Firsts represented EMP in both the Twenty20 and VWCA finals this year She has also proven to be handy with the ball being deemed Bowler of the Tournament at the CA U18 National Championship The teenager was also awarded the 2010 Commonwealth Bank Rising Female Star award at Cricket Victoria s annual Gala Awards in March Filling Strano s spot on the rookie list is Plenty Valley s Kirsty Lamb Lamb earnt her spot on the team after a stellar season with the ball The left arm medium pacer has just completed two full seasons with Plenty Valley s First XI after coming straight into the side following her junior career with Yarrambat CC She has also represented Victoria at both under 18s and CA Cup levels Selectors are still to announce who will take the reigns as DEC Spirit Captain and Vice Captain It is anticipated that an announcement will be made early

    162 after 41 overs Hunter returned to the bowling attack to claim two more wickets to finish with the figures of 3 35 from eight overs Due to the game only being a practice match the ACT batted out their full 50 overs even though they lost their tenth wicket at the end of the 48 th over They finished on 204 VicSpirit was in early trouble when Elyse Villani was bowled without scoring by Aimee Harris in the opening over The star partnership of Meg Lanning and Jess Cameron then combined to rocket the score to 1 79 in just the tenth over before Lanning went for one too many shots and was caught for 37 25 balls The following wicket of Cameron sparked a middle order collapse for the VicSpirit as they lost 5 33 in the space of nine overs After a partnership of 39 between Hunter and Emily McIntyre clawed the side back into the match two quick wickets left the score at 9 179 in the 35 th over The star of the day Hunter combined with Annie Rose Maloney to graft out the 26 runs required for victory Hunter finished the day with an unbeaten 42 to go with her 3 35 with the ball For Saturday s scorecard go to http www cricketvictoria com au files 50 20Over 20Scorecard pdf After Saturday s match went right down to the wire Sunday s Twenty20 was a contrasting affair The ACT batted first once again and was under early pressure after three wickets were lost in the first three overs All the VicSpirit bowlers kept it tight and there was a steady stream of wickets with Wright 28 the only batter to show any resistance Hempenstall topped off a great weekend with another two wickets

    saw just 13 runs come from the final two overs with skipper Emma Inglis 3 Villani 55 from 54 balls and Sarah Elliott 5 all falling late We ve missed out at the top of the order in the last couple of games so it was good to be able to provide a positive start Villani said Meg and I were able to create a bit of a platform and with her scoring so quickly and then Jess doing the same I fell into the role of nearly batting through the innings which I enjoyed Brooke Hepburn was the pick of the Tasmanian bowlers taking 2 17 from her two overs Linsey Da Costa and Meg Phillips were the other wicket takers Chasing 140 for victory Molly Strano snared a wicket in her first over dismissing Tasmanian opener Erin Burns for three A 41 run second wicket partnership between Carly Ryan and Da Costa 20 saw Tasmania reach the half way mark with a glimmer of hope before Elliott bowled the latter courtesy of a brilliant yorker Ryan 47 found it difficult to make anything of the run chase as she lost partners at regular intervals This resulted in the Roar finish their innings at 7 108 unable to chase the 140 set for victory Kath Hempenstall led the way for the VicSpirit taking 3 21 from her three overs while Elliott claimed 1 18 from four and and Strano snared 1 14 from three We bowled exceptionally well at the start of the innings Villani said Emma Kearney and Molly Strano were exceptional and then Kathleen Hempenstall bowled well at the end She s a great finisher but a lot of the hard work was done at the start of the innings Our aim is always to play finals

    own with the Megastar striking six fours and a six during her unbeaten 57 from 39 balls Box Hill posting 1 182 from its 20 overs which proved more than enough to secure a spot in the T20 final as the Lions could only manage 8 45 in reply In the other morning game of the double header round a brilliant performance from the VicSpirit s Jess Cameron guided Plenty Valley home over Brunswick Park Chasing 109 for victory the Bats run chase was anchored by Cameron who deposited two balls into the nearby creek on her way to 61 The Plenty Valley victory was not without its nervous moments as VicSpirit quick Kathleen Hempenstall took four late wickets to take the game into the last over However the Bats were too good and secured the victory with four balls to spare The loss to Plenty Valley meant that Brunswick Park had to beat EMP handsomely in order to progress through the T20 final A tough ask considering the Bombers had never been beaten in four years of VWCA T20 cricket After a slight rain delay that shortened the match to 18 overs per side the VicSpirit pairing of Elyse Villani and Emma Inglis got the Parkers off to a perfect start reaching 50 without loss in the sixth over Villani 40 then fell with the score at 1 75 however the 23 year old Inglis continued to hit the boundary until she was undone for 63 via some good bowling from VicSpirit teammate Kirsten Beams 1 26 The Parkers eventually posting 5 130 from their 18 overs Needing to take all 10 wickets and cheaply Hempenstall again featured prominently for Brunswick Park removing Cassie Brock 2 straight away however VicSpirit class batter Emily McIntyre 33 proved a thorn in
