  • Gippsland Commuters Face Confusion and Delay – Russell Northe
they arrived at local stations It is simply not good enough for Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan to disappear leaving VLine to sort this issue out on their own Mr Blackwood said Member for Morwell Russell Northe said his constituents deserved to know why the issue with signalling had arisen and when they could expect to see normal services resume Gippsland commuters have been told to allow at least an extra 45 minutes travel time on their journeys with most Traralgon trains also being replaced by coaches for the entirety of their journey Mr Northe said Gippsland train services and commuters have been treated as second class by Labor Governments with the Regional Rail Link project a prime example whereby upgrades on the Geelong Ballarat and Bendigo lines occurred yet Gippsland was totally neglected The Coalition adopted a plan prior to the 2014 election that included additional services the duplication of tracks and removal of level crossings on the Gippsland line yet the Labor Government has completely ignored these initiatives Today is the fourth day of interruptions for commuters and the network will be under extreme pressure to deal with the additional pressure from people returning to work for the week Jacinta Allan and Daniel Andrews need to come clean and tell regional commuters who already travel long distances using public transport just how long this shambles is set to continue If Gippsland commuters continue to face delays and a compromised service because of this issue then the Premier and Minister Allan need to seriously consider either reimbursing commuters who have been affected or offering free transport on the Gippsland line until a fix is found said Mr Northe Similar bans have not been instituted on the Bendigo line where staff have been placed at each crossing to ensure the

  • Nationals MPs call on Labor to act on Morwell CFA station commitment – Russell Northe
fund land acquisition and the construction of a new station ensuring our firefighters are equipped with the tools and resources they need to do their job In May 2015 the newly elected Andrews Labor Government promised a further 3 million for a new emergency services hub for fire and ambulance services to be built in Morwell However Mr Northe said the Minister for Emergency Services Jane Garrett had remained tight lipped as to exactly how and when this money would be spent Our local career firefighters and volunteers deserve this further investment and it s now time for this Labor Government to put their money where their mouth is Mr Northe said Essentially with the Coalition s allocation the Andrews Government is sitting on 8 million for an emergency services facility in Morwell yet we have no idea as to what form this will take where it will be situated how it will be staffed or when works will begin Mr Northe said despite repeated questioning to the Emergency Services Minister no answers were forthcoming The Nationals MP along with Shadow Minister for Emergency Services Brad Battin and Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath met with local CFA volunteers today to discuss the future of the Morwell CFA fire station Ms Bath said Morwell s emergency services workforce was eager to hear whether land had been acquired for the new station They rightly want to know exactly how this money will be used if Morwell will house both ambulance and fire services and what the staffing profile will be Ms Bath said This is people s livelihoods we are dealing with and it would be nice if the Andrews Government would be more open as to what the exact plans are for Morwell CFA and emergency services Media Contact
