  • Northe questions Labor’s back to work plan – Russell Northe
proposed legislation including the potential high level of bureaucracy that employers will have to endure and the lack of clarity surrounding the criteria of eligibility While the initiative might seem well intended I sense that a number of businesses will simply hesitate about participating in the scheme for the sake of 1 000 I also have serious doubts around the eligibility criteria for this plan and that Labor s target will be achieved Mr Northe said Labor committed absolutely nothing to Latrobe Valley businesses at the 2014 state election and are now only potentially offering 1 000 with conditions attached This is in complete contrast to the investment and support provided to Gippsland businesses by the Coalition Government Mr Northe said I have apprehensions that Labors plan will replace the successful Latrobe Valley Industry and Infrastructure Fund LVIIF to which the Coalition Government invested 15 million LVIIF supported more than 40 local projects created 1100 jobs and leveraged close to 100 million in investment for our region LVIIF through the Regional Growth Fund is very important to the people of regional Victoria and with the government changing tack in terms of what it will do for job creation in regional Victoria this is quite concerning Mr Northe said with the potential of the initiative being implemented in April this year I m urging the Labor Government to provide clearer information about the plan and its objectives Within Labors plan they attest that Every Job is worth fighting for however this is an absolute contradiction with a prospective 3 700 jobs being lost due to Labor not proceeding with the East West Link project as an example Mr Northe said These actions by the Labor Government verify their lack of commitment for the business sector more generally including those in Gippsland

  • Northe calls on Labor to support Latrobe Valley Racing Club – Russell Northe
very disappointing to hear that within weeks of Labor coming to Government the number of race meets has been reduced back to two per year from 2016 17 Mr Northe said Mr Northe said he is calling upon the Minister for Racing Martin Pakula to support the future of the Latrobe Valley Racing Club and ensuring they have sufficient race meetings to be viable into the future The additional race meet allocated by the Coalition Government provided a huge boost for our region There are the obvious impacts around the promotion of racing but also the attraction of visitors to the area and the economic benefit to our local towns and businesses Mr Northe said LVRC has endured a significant run of bad luck in recent years with weather and track conditions impacting on race day meets Just last year the LVRC s scheduled race meet was transferred from Traralgon to Tatura due to the track being in an unsuitable condition to race The removal of this race meet will put further pressure on the club and its finances at a time when it needs industry support Mr Northe said I congratulate Peter Walkely Chairman of LVRC the committee and its members for their dedication to keep the Latrobe Valley Racing Club operational and ensure it plays an important role in the social and economic future of our region The club does a great job in providing opportunities for race meets in our area and I will continue to lobby the Labor Government for the continuation of this race meet Mr Northe said I believe we need to maintain the club s race meeting to ensure a strong presence for racing in Latrobe Valley The removal of this race meets further shows the Labor Government s lack of commitment to
