  • ANZAC spirit close to students’ hearts – Russell Northe

  • Gippsland towns encouraged to apply now to host the Melbourne Cup trophy – Russell Northe
    part of the race that stops the nation and host a number of events that the community can get excited about in the lead up to the Melbourne Cup Carnival Mr Northe said Mr Northe said since 2003 the Melbourne Cup tour had provided regional communities with the chance to get their eye on the 175 000 prize Over that period the 18 carat gold Melbourne Cup has travelled more than 456 000 kilometres visited over 333 towns and cities and engaged with hundreds of thousands of people Mr Northe said Once tour locations for 2016 have been confirmed by the VRC the club will work with the chosen towns to plan and host a range of community events to celebrate the Cup s visit The types of events that have typically been held to celebrate the cup being in town include parades civic receptions charity dinners community events and cocktail parties Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath said Gippsland was fortunate to have a number of quality racing clubs in towns such as Drouin Moe Traralgon Sale Stony Creek Bairnsdale Buchan Tambo Valley and Omeo All these clubs work hard to make country racing events a significant part of the local community Ms Bath said As part of last year s tour the Cup visited Rosedale to celebrate the town being the home of the 1915 Cup winner s owner the late Edith Widdis exactly 100 years on from the win Applications to host the cup are open until Monday 11 April 2016 and I encourage all interested towns to consider making an application Ms Bath said Online applications can be submitted at https www flemington com au melbourne cup carnival emirates melbourne cup tour Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts

  • No support from Labor for Latrobe Valley jobs says Northe – Russell Northe
    coming from Government regarding expressions of interest for local major projects and employment opportunities On the one hand the Premier says that he will fight for every job well he also needs to ensure that people within the Morwell electorate have the opportunity to participate in State Government funded projects in our community Mr Northe said Mr Northe said the Andrews Government had not been open and transparent with many major projects in the Latrobe Valley leaving many locals asking questions as to how employment opportunities may be sought With respect to the Morwell Primary School Regeneration Project and the development of stage 2a at Latrobe Regional Hospital to which the Coalition provided 73 million it is imperative that local residents and contractors have the opportunity to participate in these works he said Mr Northe believes the State Government should also do all it can to assist locals wishing to access employment through private projects such as the construction of an Esso pipeline which was contracted to Nacap Again local qualified personnel have put to me that they have found it extremely difficult to obtain adequate information and support to participate in this project he said It is a source of frustration that these projects are occurring in our backyard yet suitably qualified locals are missing out on this work Whilst I appreciate this is private investment the Government should at least be paying due regard to these matters and doing all it can to provide support to workers in the Latrobe Valley to ensure they have the best opportunity in gaining employment through such projects Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget a

  • Northe calls on Government to support an investigation into Latrobe Valley fuel prices – Russell Northe
    rightly felt like they were being ripped off I do wish to express concerns on behalf of local motorists and businesses in the Latrobe Valley with respect to fuel price discrepancies that strongly suggest Latrobe Valley residents are paying much higher fuel prices than communities to the east west and south Mr Northe told the parliament Mr Northe said in the past week Morwell had recorded the highest fuel prices across the state on average While metropolitan fuel prices are hitting all time lows in the Latrobe Valley motorists are being slugged with around 20 per cent more at the petrol pump he said It s another example of people living in regional Victoria getting a poorer deal than those living in the city High petrol prices have been an issue in the Latrobe Valley for many years but despite continued calls for action nothing has changed Mr Northe has also written to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on a number of occasions requesting an investigation into fuel prices in the Latrobe Valley He said there was no logical reason behind current pricing in the Latrobe Valley and he was determined to fight for a better deal for local residents If the ACCC and fuel retailers are not going to take the concerns of local motorists seriously then the State Government needs to step up to the plate here and push for a fair deal for Latrobe Valley motorists rather than turning a blind eye to the raw deal motorists in the Morwell electorate are copping Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget a disappointment for Latrobe Valley April 27 2016 Upcoming Community

  • National MPs call on government to meet with ‘Get it Built’ group – Russell Northe
    and has recently engaged consultants to investigate an appropriate scope and design along with a business case that would be utilised to illicit financial support from both State and Federal Governments Ms Bath said It is imperative the Minister understands the importance of this project to the Latrobe Valley and wider Gippsland community and that is why I have asked her to meet with Get it Built representatives On Monday night Latrobe City Council committed 10 million to the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre redevelopment Member for Morwell Russell Northe said council s support was further vindication of the community s substantial desire and drive to ensure the redevelopment goes ahead Unfortunately our community has been bypassed for many years when it comes to attracting high profile shows and events due to the current size and infrastructure limitations of the art centre Mr Northe said It s a long held frustration that Traralgon has missed out to both Sale and Warragul and it s time our centre is upgraded to ensure more opportunities are created for our region The Get it Built group was established in December last year to advocate for the arts centre redevelopment and is made up of community members service clubs business representatives performing arts user groups and Council representatives Mr Northe who is chair of the group said thousands of local community members had signed petitions given financial pledges and attended rallies to demonstrate support for the project He said there were plans for applications to be submitted to the State Government and to the Federal Governments Stronger Regions program over the coming month It s important the Minister meet with representatives of Get it Built to understand how vital this project is for Latrobe Valley residents and the future of our region Mr Northe said
