  • CONCERNS OVER LABOR’S REGIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE FUND – APPLICATION GUIDELINES – Russell Northe
is using its regional fund as a way to cost shift and spend more in the city Mr Northe said Unlike the Coalition s Regional Growth Fund this is not extra money for rural and regional Victoria It is a grab bag of projects that would normally be funded by departmental budgets like health sport education and agriculture By throwing all these projects into its regional fund the Labor Government has more money left to spend on projects in Melbourne Examples include the dental prosthetics and training centre in the Latrobe Valley which should be funded by the health or education budgets the Horticultural Research Foundation which should be funded by the agriculture budget and the Stawell Gift and Eureka Stadium which should be funded by the sport budget Mr Northe said around 210 million or almost half of the fund had already been committed You have to wonder whether these guidelines were simply developed to suit the government s political agenda given it was done retrospectively Mr Northe said Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath said Labor s regional fund was another example of the Andrews Government being Melbourne focused at the expense of regional areas such as Gippsland The Coalition made sure our Regional Growth Fund was used for projects that would develop regional areas Ms Bath said This government s Regional Infrastructure Fund really seems to pale in comparison Labor is sneakily trying to look as though it s spending money in regional Victoria when really this government is investing that absolute minimum that can be spent on regional development under the legislation Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget

  • Have your say on Andrews Labor Government rate capping proposal – Russell Northe
kept down But Mr Northe said it was important that the cap did not impact important infrastructure or services in country Victoria such as public libraries child care and children s crossing supervisors With rates being capped Daniel Andrews needs to make sure councils have enough funding so their communities don t suffer with reduced services or deteriorating roads and infrastructure Mr Northe said So far this government has done nothing but attacked country councils budgets ripping out millions of dollars in vital funding The Country Bridges Program was providing each of our country councils with around 1 million a year to upgrade local roads and bridges but that s gone The 100 million Local Government Infrastructure Program was helping councils to build new halls and theatres sporting grounds grand stands pools libraries and upgrading existing facilities That s gone too Daniel Andrews can t have it both ways He can t cap council rates while tearing out millions in government funding and expect country councils to continue delivering the same services Mr Northe encouraged anyone with a view on the rate capping policy to have their say through a parliamentary inquiry that was currently underway The Liberal Nationals Coalition wants to make sure the final policy that is introduced by the Labor Government is in the best interests of all communities That s why your opinion is so important Mr Northe said Submissions close on 10 July and more detail about how to make a submission or contribute at a public hearing can be found at www parliament vic gov au epc Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget a disappointment for Latrobe

  • Big increase in fire services levy – Russell Northe
an additional 42 1 million into the funds of the State Government Mr Northe said The Labor Government s proposed 7 2 per cent increase in collections from the FSL is a massive increase compared to the average inflation rate over the past 12 months which was only 1 8 per cent This means land owners will be slugged with a FSL increase which is four times the CPI Consumer Price Index or inflation rate Mr Northe said it was hypocritical for the Andrews Labor Government to impose huge increases on property owners through the FSL at the same time they were demanding local councils cap rates at CPI or less Prior to the 2014 State Election Daniel Andrews and Labor promised there would be no increases in taxes and charges so this big increase in the FSL being imposed on Victorian families and businesses is another Labor broken promise he said The Coalition Government introduced a fair and more equitable FSL system by scrapping the unfair insurance based levy This ensured all Victorian property owners paid a fair and reasonable contribution to fund our fire services Across Latrobe Valley the former Coalition Government used the FSL to deliver new tankers and equipment for local brigades In addition the former Coalition Government also funded the rebuilding of fire stations Glengarry East Glengarry Cowwarr and Morwell Given that the last Coalition CFA budget was 58 million more than Labor in 2010 it is difficult to understand why the new Labor Government is planning to massively increase FSLs for all Victorian property owners This massive increase will hurt struggling household budgets and make it harder for businesses across regional and rural Victoria in these challenging economic times Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands

  • 2015/16 Budget falls short – Russell Northe
of Kurnai College and that it continued to support the Coalition in implementing the recommendations of the Morwell Mine Fire Inquiry I also welcome the Government s commitment to a Gippsland Logistics Precinct in Morwell and a dental prosthetics training facility however there is no detail on what funding will be committed or when these projects will be delivered Mr Northe said Labor had pledged funding for a new technical school in the Latrobe Valley prior to the election but it appears the locality may now change given the budget papers refer to a new technical school in Gippsland with only planning money committed at this stage Mr Northe said the construction of the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre in Traralgon has been completely ignored It would have allowed swimming enthusiasts to use the pool all year round and provide a boost to the health and wellbeing of local residents russell northe parliament vic gov au www russellnorthe com au 66 George St Morwell VIC 3840 ph 03 5133 9088 fax 03 5133 9388 There is also little investment in the budget for Gippsland rail services that would alleviate current capacity service and punctuality issues This is in stark contrast to Coalition plans for investment in improving rail services in Gippsland Mr Northe said The Latrobe Valley Industry Infrastructure Fund has been axed and the Coalition s plan to establish a 5 million Gippsland Innovation and Enterprise Development Centre at Federation University Churchill has also been ignored It is also extremely disappointing that there is no funding towards a Newborough CFA fire station which would ensure our magnificent CFA volunteers were able to operate out of a modern facility and not a building that is close to 50 years old Instead the Andrews Government continues to put its focus on the suburbs of Melbourne rather than country areas such as the Latrobe Valley Mr Northe said he would be lobbying hard to secure the Coalition s pre election commitments for Latrobe Valley Unfortunately the Melbourne Labor Government has ignored all community driven projects that the Coalition took to the 2014 election however I will continue to advocate and lobby for these projects to be delivered Mr Northe said Media contact 5133 9088 LIST OF COALITION PROJECTS IGNORED BY LABOR IN THE 2015 2016 BUDGET 13 million to undertake the Morwell Primary Schools Regeneration Project 9 million for the construction of a Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre in Traralgon V Line Rail upgrade package which includes 24 new weekly V Line services duplication of tracks additional carriages and removal of level crossings 5 million for the establishment of a Gippsland innovation and Enterprise Development Centre at Federation University Churchill 1 3 million to retain the Centre for Multicultural Youth office in Morwell 1 2 million to construct a new fire station for the Newborough CFA 230 000 to redevelop the Traralgon Court House for community and commercial use 150 000 to establish lighting on the pathway linking the Yinnar township and Recreation Reserve
