  • NORTHE CALLS ON THE STATE LABOR GOVERNMENT TO HELP TACKLE ICE PROBLEM – Russell Northe
ordinary people who volunteer to support addicts and their families as they battle the devastating effects of ice Mr Northe said The Ice Meltdown Project which operates out of Drouin provides detox programs counselling and family support and it has assisted approximately 150 clients Volunteers such as Janice Sue and Megan from the Ice Meltdown project do an exceptional job in supporting people in our community however the Labor Government needs to realise that these groups require funding to continue delivering their program and services within the Gippsland community Mr Northe said it s essential we recognise that there is a problem in our communities and despite good intentions by all levels of Government the current system and programs in place are simply not working effectively I have concerns about the extent of the ice problem in towns across the Latrobe Valley its alarming to hear about the impact that ice is having on young people in our community Mr Northe said We need a broad approach focused on raising awareness of the drug particularly for young people increased police activity targeting manufacturers and traffickers and better access to health and rehabilitation services for local people affected by ice There is a need for access to medium and long term rehabilitation services here in Gippsland to accommodate these people and assist those families who are dealing with such tragic circumstances We need to get on top of the problem as soon as possible If you have concerns about any criminal or suspicious behaviour in the community you can contact Crime stoppers Dob in a Dealer hotline which enables people to anonymously call the toll free number 1800 333 000 or use the local crime stoppers website www crimestoppersvic com au to report online Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post

  • NORTHE RAISES LAND OWNERS CONCERNS IN PARLIAMENT – Russell Northe
Review it recently came to light that Planning Panels Victoria has made recommendations to expand buffer zones on land adjoining both Australian Paper and AGL s Loy Yang mine east of Traralgon The said land immediately outside these existing buffer zones had in some instances been earmarked for future residential development and also includes the gazetted Traralgon bypass route Mr Northe said My office has been approached by many land owners who could be impacted by the extension of these buffers with many extremely upset by a lack of information and communication So can the Minister explain why land owners have not received any information whatsoever from State Government departments or agencies on what Planning Panels Victoria recommendation means for their land Mr Northe said that he was extremely concerned there has been a lack of community consultation or information Following a recent newspaper article on this matter I have had many residents from the affected areas contact my office for information as they weren t aware of Planning Panel Victoria s recommendations or where to locate the relevant information Mr Northe said It s simply not good enough that Government have left it for landowners to try and source the information themselves It is important the community is to be kept up to date with information about what these recommendations mean and the Labor Government should be making every effort to keep these landowners informed For more information about the Latrobe Planning Scheme Amendment C87 and to view the Panel Report you can visit the Latrobe City Council website http www latrobe vic gov au Building and Planning Development Planning Scheme Amendments Current Planning Scheme Amendments Amendment C87 Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29

  • LATROBE VALLEY SCHOOLS TO RECEIVE INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING – Russell Northe
Tyers Primary Schools on their successful applications for infrastructure funding that will go a long way to improve facilities in their school communities Mr Northe said We have some great state schools in Gippsland but there are also many in need of more support Kurnai will receive 106 000 Liddiard Road 75 000 and Tyers 20 000 as part of a 27 million package for renovations and refurbishment It s disappointing that the government has only allocated 0 74 per cent of its funding to three schools in my electorate from the 153 schools funded through this latest round Mr Northe said To provide 27 million in infrastructure funding and only give the Morwell electorate 201 000 is pretty stingy Once again country Victorians are disadvantaged by this Melbourne Labor Government I will continue to advocate for these schools in the Parliament and directly with the Minister and I look forward to some further education projects being funded in the future Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget a disappointment for Latrobe Valley April
