  • Government questioned about paper use – Russell Northe
a series of questions on notice to the Minister for Finance Robin Scott asking what percentage of Australian made paper and Australian made recycled paper was being used by each individual department and agency I m calling for State Government department and agencies to better support Australian Paper by purchasing locally made copy paper Governments of all persuasions have generally been supportive of Australian Paper at its Maryvale site when it comes to capital investment and environmental upgrades such as the recently commissioned 90 million de inking plant However what is the point in providing capital support for these upgrades if you won t in turn purchase the end product Mr Northe said The de inking plant which produces 100 recycled copy paper is an important key to our local economy with the Maryvale site contributing directly or indirectly to approximately 4 000 jobs It is important that as consumers we understand that Australian Paper s major competitors are from overseas destinations with less strict environmental and forestry standards that apply in Australia I use Latrobe Valley Australian made paper in my electorate office and I encourage all government departments agencies businesses and the community to do same In addition to my questions to the Minister I have also written to every State Government Minister asking for their support to ensure their departments are buying Australian made copy paper and therefore protecting local jobs Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget a disappointment for Latrobe Valley April 27 2016 Upcoming Community Events Latrobe City Calendar of Events May 2016 April 28 2016 Got a story Tell Russell Your confidentiality and anonimity is assured Stay
