  • Labor Demonstrates Lack of Support for Latrobe Valley Fire Fighters – Russell Northe
lack of support for Latrobe Valley fire fighters in Parliament this week In a Members Statement yesterday Mr Northe said the government launched the new CFA District 27 with much fanfare last year but had still failed to provide adequate resources almost a year later The government has stalled on the recruitment of two brigade administrative support officers and one training officer which would have supported all brigades in the Latrobe region Unfortunately since District 27 was launched last year there has been a total lack of action from the Labor Government and they have failed to deliver the resources they promised Mr Northe said It is simply not good enough for the Labor Government to provide nothing more than token support for our fire fighters who have done an incredible job in serving and protecting our community in very difficult circumstances in recent years The government also failed to answer 14 questions I previously raised in Parliament on this issue which is a further insult to our hard working fire fighters and community Mr Northe said the Andrews Labor Government had also provided scant detail on a new Morwell fire station such as when and where it would be built Our local fighters and the broader community deserve answers and it s about time the Andrews Government stops hiding and starts delivering on these commitments Mr Northe said Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget a disappointment for Latrobe Valley April 27 2016 Upcoming Community Events Latrobe City Calendar of Events May 2016 April 28 2016 Got a story Tell Russell Your confidentiality and anonimity is assured Stay updated and make a difference

  • Regional Communities to Benefit from Port Lease – Russell Northe
country infrastructure projects said Mr Blackwood The outcome of at least 10 per cent from the lease is a major win for regional communities particularly those in the Gippsland region There are a huge range of key transport infrastructure projects which are in desperate need of funding including duplication of track to improve frequency and reliability of Gippsland VLine services duplication of and upgrades to sections of the Princes Highway East and funding of minor road projects on both state and local roads It s critically important that now this deal has been reached that funding begin to flow to regional infrastructure as quickly as possible Mr Blackwood said Member for Morwell Russell Northe said that without the 700 million secured through the port lease regional infrastructure would have continued to suffer after already experiencing 18 months of neglect under the current Andrews Government Regional road infrastructure funding has gone backwards under the Andrews Government with programs such as the Country Roads and Bridges Fund and Regional Growth Fund being axed Mr Northe said This funding will help negate some of that lost funding and provide a real boost to regional transport funding which is desperately needed Mr Northe said other grants and programs had also been tied to the lease of the port and it was important projects from those funds were now implemented to help grow regional economies The Andrews Government tied funding from the lease of the port to programs such as the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund which replaced the Coalitions very successful Regional Growth Fund that delivered tens of millions of dollars in investment to the Morwell electorate 18 months without funding to the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund has seen a slump in investment across regional Victoria that has hurt regional communities The Andrews

  • Minor relief for Gippsland commuters with some services set to return – Russell Northe
the last week who conveyed their frustration at the ongoing disruption to Gippsland rail services For example a gentleman who commutes most days to Melbourne for work explained that he catches a bus in the morning and an evening train service and this is creating at least an extra 6 hours of travel per week for him Mr Northe said I was also approached by a lady who told me that her long awaited dental appointment had to be rescheduled as her dentist who was due to travel from Melbourne to the Latrobe Valley had their bus service cancelled In Parliament we have a conga line of Labor Ministers standing up and espousing the virtues of metropolitan rail projects but when it comes to Gippsland V Line service disruptions we hear nothing Mr Northe said This is simply not good enough when at the same time Gippsland commuters have endured enormous disruption and hardship over these past weeks Mr Northe said without the pressure from local commuters including members from the Gippsland VLine Users Group this issue may have dragged on for many more months Gippsland commuters have been left in the dark for over a month about the ongoing VLine crisis until yesterday when the Minister spoke for the first time since February 4 th announcing the return of some Gippsland trains on 21 March Mr Northe said While yesterday s announcement is a step forward for rail users in the Gippsland region the Andrews Government s communication with local commuters on this issue has been nothing short of disgraceful There has been no major funding commitment from the Andrews Government and I call on Daniel Andrews and his Minister Jacinta Allan to provide funding in this year s Budget for additional infrastructure investment for VLine services to and

  • Labor keeps expensive AFL parade holiday – Russell Northe
first parade holiday last year Impacted small businesses across the state reported losses ranging between 1000 and 5000 as a direct result of the parade holiday The penalty rates were too expensive for many local businesses last year so they closed or cut staff shifts on the AFL parade day Mr Northe said The new holiday is for a parade in Melbourne not a local event so there isn t an increase in patronage to help to cover the extra wages costs In fact on my observation and feedback towns in the Morwell electorate were very quiet on this day Mr Northe ran a survey to assess the business community s views on the holiday and there was overwhelming opposition from those surveyed Of 105 respondents 98 per cent were opposed to the holiday and the feedback more generally from the business community indicated strong opposition to the new public holidays instigated by the Andrews Government Mr Northe said One of the biggest disappointments relayed to me was that this holiday was announced without any consultation with the small business sector and the consultation that eventually took place was after the holiday had been determined Mr Northe said the Andrews Labor Government should be creating new jobs in rural and regional Victoria but instead it was making life harder for regional businesses and causing casual workers to lose their shifts Why should rural and regional businesses suffer for a parade 150 kilometres away in Melbourne Mr Northe said This is yet another city centric decision by the Andrews Labor Government Media contact 5133 9088 Share this post Facebook Twitter Google LinkedIn Related posts Northe stands up for CFA volunteers April 29 2016 Nationals support Telstra Business Women s Awards April 28 2016 Budget a disappointment for Latrobe Valley April 27
