    area in John Forrest National Park The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail has been realigned through the picnic area along a short diversion of approximately 300m Monday 12 September 2011 RadioWest Interview with Event Co ordinator Jarrod Stringer Click here to listen Wednesday 31 August 2011 History celebrated in Trek event TWO of Shire of Mundaring s first fire fighting vehicles will be on display at Trek the Trail as part of celebrations to mark Wooroloo Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade s 70th Anniversary Some of the brigade s original equipment will be on display at Trek including the former army vehicle the brigade used for 32 years Other vintage FESA vehicles will also be part of the display and there will be an opportunity for community members to find out about being a volunteer firefighter This year s Trek the Trail will be held on Sunday 18 September starting at Wooroloo and finishing at Chidlow Trek is an annual event organised by Shire of Mundaring in conjunction with the Mundaring Visitor Centre Mundaring Arts Centre and Mundaring and Hills Historical Society The event held on a different section of the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail each year is aimed at promoting the area s beautiful trails natural environment arts tourism and significant history whilst promoting physical and social activity A free bus and bicycle service runs throughout the morning Participants can park in Chidlow and be transported to the start line in Wooroloo or begin their journey from a special half way point for those less adventurous or able This year s route includes Wandoo occurrences historic buildings of the Wooroloo sanatorium and travelling through nature reserves and lush farmland There will be displays highlighting the historic sites flora and fauna interactive artworks and activities displayed along the trail The Water Corporation School Trekathon will also be held in conjunction with the Trek event At least six local schools will take part in Trekathon a way for students to raise money for their school by seeking sponsorship to take part in the event The inaugural Have a go with Bendigo photography competition will also be held this year Participants are encouraged to take photos along the Trail and send in their favourites following the event For more information visit the Trek website www trekthetrail com au Wednesday 10 August 2011 School fundraiser gets students outdoors SHIRE of Mundaring is encouraging local students to put on their joggers or dust off their bike in preparation for this year s Water Corporation School Trekathon The Trekathon is held in conjunction with Trek the Trail a free event held on a different section of the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail annually This year s event is on Sunday 18 September starting at Wooroloo and ending in Chidlow Shire President Helen Dullard said the Water Corporation School Trekathon was a great way for local students to explore the local trail get some exercise and raise money for their school at the same time Students ask family and
