  • Media Watch - Priorities Much? | James Purser
threat to serious journalism All well and good and to be honest I would have liked to have gone to the conference myself However considering this was the first media watch since the West Australian Government had ordered a police raid on one of the major WA newspapers to chase down the source of what even the WA State Premier describes as an innocuous leak I would have expected to see some time dedicated to that event Instead what we got was a couple of seconds at the end of the programme and a throw away perhaps we ll look at that next week Media Watch is one of the more important ways the Media can keep an eye on itself It s only ten minutes a week but it s enough to break real stories and open up the often closed world of Australian Media To have it slip up and relegate an event like the one above to maybe next week concerns me as much as the 7 30 Report s blatantly dodgy report on ISP filtering did Come on Aunty I expect better from you James Purser s blog Add new comment Comments Too quick Permalink Submitted by Glen Turner on Mon 05 05 2008 23 19 I didn t have time to see the show but when reportage of a criminal action is from the Second XI you don t know if the First XI story got hit with a temporary injunction until the reporter has a chance to get before the courts in the morning Remember too that fine details in legally related stories count If their legal advisor asks for more time to sort through those details then only a fool would broadcast Holding an analysis story over for a week on a show

having with it were OS specific or hardware related As it happened it appears the problems were OS Driver related so she s stuck with Ubuntu for the moment Right from the start she s been impressed by Ubuntu its usability software support and hardware support Last week she purchased a 3G Mobile Internet USB dongle and asked me to set it up for her Well I trawled the internet tried a variety of different solutions and each on hit a problem when trying to connect It would connect attempt to authenticate and then disconnect After tearing my hair out I asked on the Sydney Linux User Group s irc channel slug on freenode and was pointed at the vodafone mobile connect card driver for linux package It comes in either source rpm or deb formats so I downloaded the deb and ran it from the menu to see what it could do It died No matter what I did running it from the menu gave me an error concerning a different model usb modem than the one my mum had e220 and then died Melissa Draper aka elkbuntu in irc land then told me that she had the same
