  • Plone Buildout Part 1 | James Purser
modified it from there However project I m working on at the moment more on that later requires that I finally make the move to the very cool build out system This post and others after it are essentially my notes about using the buildout system here to help both myself and anyone else who happens to be having troubles A Brief Explanation of the Buildout System Essentially the Buildout system allows you to fine tune your install of Plone before you actually install anything By putting your information into a file called Buildout cfg and running the Buildout command the Buildout system interprets your commands into actions and installs the software as per your instructions Setting Up Your Environment Before we dive into the fun that is Buildout we need to ensure that we have a few things Firstly make sure you have the following installed on your system Python 2 4 The Python Imaging Library The ez setup py script Once you have these run the following commands to grab the tools you ll need to setup your buildout python ez setup py This will download and install the setuptools and easy install script which you will next

  • More Of The Gardening Thing | James Purser
post in the epic saga that is the Purser family garden First off my god Zuchinni plants are hardy beasts Our Zuchinni patch was getting pretty crowded to the point of ridiculousness really So I dug one of them out and transplanted it into the pot where we were trying to grow a few pumpkins By that afternoon it was looking very wilted and I was sure that it was going to survive but lo and behold the next morning there was new growth and it s been going strong ever since In fact our Zuchinni crop is probably going to be slightly massive Next time round we re not going to plant so many The compost heap is going strong one of these days I m going to grab something to check the internal temperature but after the last load of lawn clippings it was hot enough inside to burn my hand Looking around the garden I ve set myself a ToDo list Build a worm farm Setup some sort of water capture facility we can t get a tank for a couple of reasons first can t afford it second we rent Get my hands on a 44

  • My Own Message To Conroy | James Purser
user onto the so called clean feed This is despite the fact that there has never been any real demand for such a service in the market which apart from Telstra has reacted quite quickly to consumer demand for specific services Despite your claims to the contrary this system is not the same as that in operation in the UK or Scandinavia by the way the media releases were a little vague as to which Scandinavian nation you were modelling on In the UK the IWF focuses specifically on a very narrow remit whereas the system you are proposing seems to cover everything from non violent erotica to sites that encourage people not to vote There is scant detail as to how and what this programme is going to be blocking Will a 12 year girl suddenly find that she cannot access information about puberty and why her body is changing Will searching for information on safe sex require the internet user to opt out How will the information about those who do opt out be handled Will ISP s be allowed to charge a higher rate for those who opt out There are many many unanswered questions I would

  • Who Speaks For You? | James Purser
Linux Australia an organisation I personally believe works as closely as it can with the community at large rather than just it s own membership but I could be biased here to orgs such as the FSF and the Linux Foundation of which Jim Zemlin is the Executive Director All of these orgs claim to be speaking for the community as if it s some sort of monolithic entity which it really really isn t I ve been thinking about this question a bit lately especially with the relaunch of the show I don t want to pretend that I m speaking for the community mainly I m asking questions that I myself want to have answered and making statements that are based on my own personal beliefs If I have people asking me to find out stuff I will mention that not who so don t worry your identity is safe but that s as far as it goes Anyway enough of the deep thought had a great time last night with Shane and Dave on Friday Night Tech it s nice not being the one asking the questions James Purser s blog Add new comment Comments RE Who Speaks For You Permalink Submitted by Matt Bottrell on Sat 27 09 2008 21 46 Hi James Thanks for the kind words I do agree with you We seem to have so many organisations that represent us but it does appear all they do is promote their own agendas and beliefs and that that of the community I too believe Linux Australia does a great job representing the community in Australia and one that works closely with the community whilst also keeping restraint and not forcing their own agenda It s one thing I love so much about LA D
