  • Android Market opens up to Aussie Devs | James Purser
of this blog you ll have noticed that I ve had a couple of rants about the fact that Google has been tardy in allowing developers from outside a very narrow range of countries to sell applications through the Android Marketplace Up until now this list has excluded nations such as Australia and Canada two nations where you would think that Google would recognise the depth of potential developer support Well yesterday Google announced that it was going to be adding 18 countries to the list of those able to actually sell apps This includes Australia Canada Israel and Hong Kong All nations with small but agile software development industries that will only benefit from the new market So w00t for the fact that now I can sell apps through the market place Now all I need to do is come up with that killer app I can only hope that they ve learnt the lesson from this and that the upcoming Chrome App Store and Google TV App Store will be able to open with a much wider range of supported countries One other thing I hope Google does take away from this exercise is the real need to

  • Malcolm Turnbull - Opposition Spokesman on Communications | James Purser
Smith who seems to have annoyed Tony Abbott and the Liberal branch of the Faceless men enough to be bounced out of the ministry altogether This is good news Malcolm Turnbull does understand the internet in a way that many in the Liberal party do not Though to be honest my 12 year old son understands the internet in a way that many in the Liberal party do not and to be fair he understands it better than many Labor party members It means that the opposition will actually have someone explaining their policy who understands what they are talking about But and it s a very big but sir mix a lot would be proud The actual opposition policy isn t going to change Turnbull s job will be to take a back of the envelope The Free Market will cure all ills plan and turn it into an Aria to please the plebs ears It s still a pig of a plan no matter how much lipstick you put on it Where I will be supporting Turnbull though will be in his attacks on the governments continuing support for the idea of an ISP Filter Tony Smith was

  • So, our pariament is hung | James Purser
which lets face it is essentially the Liberal party with a couple of Nationals hanging on for dear life The media has gone completely ape poo over the idea Predicting doom and disaster with great wailings and gnashing of teeths while those that I ve spoken to on the street seem to be loving it Watching Gillard and Abbott have to completely change tack and start running what is essentially a mini election has given people hope that the system isn t irretrievably broken I do find it kind of amusing to read and hear those who declare that because Tony Windsor Bob Katter and Rod Oakshot are ex nationals and so called conservative politicians that their only moral move would be to join the Coalition in government This after all three have copped any amount of political crap from the Coalition in the past especially from the Nationals They seem to be forgetting that Katter Windsor and Oakshot represent a Country Party that has long died off elsewhere and indeed they represent a type of MP that is in very short supply a true local representative For the next few weeks we will as the old chinese curse goes be living in interesting times Whether the big three will throw their lot in with the Coalition or Labor the major parties have been put on notice that they can t take the electorate for granted any more Change will have to occur if they wish to stem the tide of resentment and anger that has been building over the past fifteen to twenty years If they don t change they re going to be left behind and someone new will step in to fill their shoes That someone may just be the Greens If any party could be said
