  • No one caused the earthquake in Japan | James Purser
of Karma is behind the earthquake Whether it s for Japans continued hunting of whales or for Japans surprise attack on Pearl Harbour in 1942 these people are convinced that the death and suffering of tens of thousands of innocent people is some sort of cosmic balancing act To these people I say what the frack Dealing with the Pearl Harbour nuts first Can you please please learn your history Japan was defeated at the end of the 2nd world war remember Those two atom bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima very quickly brought what was by then a broken nation to its knees Since then Japan has been on of Americas strongest allies in the region both economically and politically Japan has invested in the US and the US has invested in Japan Baseball is a national sport in both countries for crying out loud My Deity Did It Note up until now I ve only heard fundamentalist christians using this one about Japan I have heard it from other religions for other disasters Really Your ever loving Deity the one who sent his son to earth to preach forgiveness and love and to die on the cross so we could all have our sins forgiven he s the one who decided that he was having a really crappy day so he d lay down the smite on a few Japanese cities What exactly did the Japanese do to deserve the finger from heaven Is it a generic Unbelievers or are they meant to have sinned in some special way Inquiring minds would like to know Horse hockey Seriously everything above boils down to one thing Blaming the victims It s their fault they re suffering It s their fault so we don t have to feel anything but

  • It's a little bit cranky | James Purser
Logitech device none of which comes close to matching the AppleTV device in price You need to start bringing it to the market involve developers release devices that bring it to the every day family not just the early adopter Hell how s this for radical don t include an all you can eat remote Take a leaf out of Boxees book and release a remote control app for iDevice and Android Phones Concentrate on your strengths the code Android Device Pricing You know what You can t afford to have your iDevice challengers price themselves out of the game Right now your flagship Android 3 0 device the Xoom is more expensive than the equivelant iPad and there is no way of getting a lower specced version say wi fi only or lower internal storage And don t tell me about the discounts people get if they get it on a 2 year plan I don t live in the US and neither does something like 95 of the worlds population If you re going to compete then make sure you re not competing for second place Then of course there s the above mentioned price disparity between GoogleTV and AppleTV devices Where s my Android iPod Touch equivelant Seriously a Nexus S without the phone component in the same way that a Touch is an iPhone without the phone would go a long way to furthering android adoption I know I d have on rather than the Touch I have at the moment Right that s Google sorted for now Apple you re next First up congratulations on the new release I mean it really has managed to bring iOS close to the point where it can compete with Android 2 2 Yes I know that sounds snarky

  • Snark masquerading as Rage | James Purser
All of these are hallmarks of your average tyranical regime and yet strangely lacking in Australia Last time I checked people were free to voice their opinions on any number of issues whether it s allowing gay people to marry methods of addressing climate change or whether football players need to be taught how to keep their pants on A little hint for those claiming their being repressed If you can stand on the street corner telling people how repressed you are and you re not being beaten by secret police you re not actually being repressed Denial of Democracy Democracy tends to be window dressing for your average self concious tyrant Oh they hold elections maybe once every five to ten years but generally they are the only candidates or if others are allowed to participate the elections are so rigged it makes professional wrestling look realistic So once again we compare this to Australia and we see that rather than the political equivelant of a couple of nicely dressed manequins in fact we have a system that not only gives every elector a voice in the government through genuine democratic elections but we have managed to create a genuine multi party system representing viewpoints from one extreme to the other Massive Corruption The other hallmark of your average tinpot dictator is massive corruption The ruling elite uses their positions in power to feather their own nests while the rest of the country is essentially reduced to serfdom North Korea Libya most of central africa are all excellent examples of this Sure we a have corruption in Australia but where as Libya and North Korea represent the Premier League in the corruption stakes we re still playing in the Z leagues We have entire institutions devoted to making sure

  • NSW - It's going to be Barry's party for a looong time. | James Purser
14 07 Okay labor is about to spend a loooooong time in the desert The Labor party is dead in the water hrmm would this count as a spoiler The most recent polls has the Nationals potentially getting more seats than Labor at the election which ensures that the Coalition unless of course it manages a Labor like performance in its first term has at least 2 possibly 3 terms to play with before the Labor party even comes close to challenging them Thats potentially 12 years of comfortable Coalition rule Um wow Not only will they have up to 12 years in control there is going be no effective opposition for at least 4 to 8 years Unless the upper house is spared the blood bath and I don t think it s going to be we re going to have no effective parliamentary opposition moderating any potential radical legislation that might be put through This is troubling when you see things like Barry O Farrell claiming that Housing Developers were being poorly treated by the Labor party Given the history of Housing Developers and the NSW Labor party I m worried what Barry considers to be decent treatment

  • Joe Hockey - Champion of the mods | James Purser
for the Coalition It turns out that the mods haven t been completely wiped out With Morrison and Co stomping all over the grieving families of the Christmas Island tragedy and Abbott showing how weak he can be Hockey actually took the time and the guts to stand up and say that Morrison was wrong Kudos to Joe and the others who have had the courage to finally hang their

  • Morrison, Joyce and Humphries - Schmucks of the highest order | James Purser
for the golden Schmuck is Scott Morrison Shadow Minister for Immigration Morrison has form in the Schmuck stakes but this week has taken it to a whole new level To reach such dizzying depths he decided to attack the decision to fly family members of those who died in the Christmas Island boat sinking who were still in detention to Sydney to attend the funerals Apparently allowing an 8 year old boy to say good bye to his parents and a father to say goodbye to his entire family is not an economically rational use of tax payers money Compassion just doesn t cut it I guess Morrison is not alone in this of course the next in the running for the Golden Schmuck is Senator Barnaby Joyce who just today said he would be pursuing the exact costings for the trips through the senate estimates hearings next week Compassion has a dollar value I guess Bringing up the rear in the race is Senator Gary Humphries from the ACT This week he tabled a petition calling for a ban on muslim immigration into Australia for ten years Now you d think that for a petition to be presented to the Senate and tabled it would have some weight behind it this is our federal house of review You d be wrong The petition itself had three names on it Yup three Also it turns out that the same petition has been tabled something like 48 times Sigh Seriously a petition that s been tabled so many times that it s starting to resemble an Australian Cricket teams opening innings with so few people on it that you can t even have a good game of bridge is not something requires being retabled simply under the guise of freedom of

  • Nokia and Microsoft - A marriage made in convenience | James Purser
OS for a partnership with Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 So what does this mean Well for a start it s going to be interesting to see how the other manufacturers deal with Microsoft and WP7 now that the biggest manufacturer in the world has signed up Will they move towards WP7 themselves to try and ride the coat tails or will they turn towards Android and accentuate the differences Of course there is the third alternative leaving everything as it stands and play the game as its always been played What does concern me is what exactly is going to be happening with Meego the love child of Intels Moblin and Nokias maemo phone OS s We saw some nice stuff at the MobileFOSS miniconf coming out of Meego and from what I ve read Nokia has decided that Meego is going to be focused more on Tablet like devices which might conflict with MS who I m sure will be producing their own tablet OS offering soon enough The good thing of course is that Meego is Open Source so at the very least we can be sure that everything up until now will stay out there Will
