technology to help connect stories and locations that is significant Hopefully people watching will start to see that if you have a connected device with a camera and the apps to stream video then you too can become part of the action in a visual sense Twitter and Facebook have connected us with news and updates Youtube provided us with a video after the event but maybe we might start to see the development of live streaming from everyday people of events and activities It will be interesting to watch to see if news services and TV stations or even local internet services start to look to develop apps for people to download so that if something interesting happens and you are on the spot you can stream the event so that the news service will pick up the feed and start to collect data and information When you think about this it starts to make you consider all the possibilities both positive and negative From an educational sense many years ago when I worked at Alice Springs School of the Air and as part of the NT Department of Education we explored the use of video backpacks with wireless satellite communications to try and enable the recording and streaming in real time of events presenters locations and activities to broadcast to students and teachers right across the NT that could not make it to these activities We explored the technology and options available and even test some but found that the costs and technology at the time was prohibitive The coverage this morning has just highlighted that we have come such a long way and that if you have a good wireless 3G connection then you can stream with the phone in your pocket For distance education this opens

is another story The LIFX was a no brainer it actually captured all our imaginations with the design connectivity and possibilities Both of my children wanted the light bulbs as soon as possible so we jumped on and backed the project We got in at backer no 157 with a cumulative total of around 20 700 We have since watched in amazement as this project has received amazing support and as of writing this blog post it currently sits at 5 035 backers with 753 786 pledged to the project What is also interesting is that there is an Australian connection to the business and idea something to explore further later After backing the project I had a few online conversations with Dan about the project and the idea of the Internet of things he pointed me towards a number of other devices and tools that look really cool but also have a really different approach to connecting with the environment people and instructions This has got my appetite wet for more on this whole area which is simply starting to explode The great part is that Dan will be speaking at the MOTM13 unconference which will be held next Feb 2013 and is shaping up to be an amazing event There are still places available although the numbers are capped at 50 people to keep the event and experiences a little more meaningful and intimate If you are interested in the Internet of Things and these devices check out the LIFX project and if you want to explore play and talk about these devices and potential in education and for education to spawn them then come along to MOTM13 See you there Comments 1 Trackbacks 0 Permalink Previous 1 Next Recent Posts EdGalaxy com Plagiarist Cyber Smarts Feedback Safer

the Western Metro Region in Melbourne I have been working with the school for over 6 months on the development of their 1 1 program It has been wonderful to see the development of the teachers and staff leading this change within the school and over the last couple of days I was able to witness the excitement of the students as they received their laptops and started on their new learning journey I look forward to watching the school community teachers and students develop from strength to strength as they utilise the power of technology to enhance and challenge their learning Well done guys Comments 5 Trackbacks 0 Permalink Previous 1 Next Recent Posts EdGalaxy com Plagiarist Cyber Smarts Feedback Safer Internet Day A few left links from the left field Google Certified Apps for Education Trainer Google Apps for Education Sydney Summit Follow Up on Student Cyber Safety Day Student Cyber Safety Day Google Apps for Education New Zealand Summit Kickstarting MOTM13 Flipping the Classroom VITTA2012 Reflection Catagories Cybersafety 8 Inspiration 5 Links 8 News 10 Podcasts Video 7 Products 2 Professional Learning 7 Reflection 2 Resources 3 Reviews 1 Top Tags gafesummit 2 ictev2011 1 slavconf11 1

channels and on had a breaking news story of a plane crashing into one of the World Trade Centre buildings and there was discussion around what type of plane it could have been then without any warning a second plane quickly loomed into the camera view and with then hit the second building the rest we all know about Given it is ten years since this event it happened to be pure coincidence that I have been reading well listening too the book I m Feeling Lucky The Confessions of Google Employee Number 59 and today I have come across the part of the book that looks at Google s reaction t 9 11 It is interesting to hear some of the decisions and reactions to how the news was handled through Google This chapter in the book made me think about the way technology has changed over the last 10 years and how our behavior has changed in times of crisis and need For me the idea of capturing our thoughts and reflections of these events through technology is an amazing capability where we can capture first hand our own personal story and events that have an impact on our lives To me this is a fundamental skill that we should all learn and use and with it the responsibility of being custodians of these stories for these stories help to teach inspire and lead What stories would you want to capture what stories have you missed out on capturing In remembrance Comments 0 Trackbacks 0 Permalink Previous 1 Next Recent Posts EdGalaxy com Plagiarist Cyber Smarts Feedback Safer Internet Day A few left links from the left field Google Certified Apps for Education Trainer Google Apps for Education Sydney Summit Follow Up on Student Cyber Safety Day Student

a sound response and is a poor reflection on modeling smart connection with your audience The second and most important part was that Kev felt that in the document the listing of the source as http drive google com support was appropriate Well yes the information may have come from that site but Google did not build this guide especially as it was in a Word document and secondly Kev did not write it as it has details within the doc pointing towards the University of Navada Kev also did not put any reference in his blog post which I think is generally a much better way to acknowledge someone else s work I responded to Kev with these details and got the following response I really don t care who created the document It is not copyrighted in any way and If they wanted credit for it they would have put it on it That is what most people do This response was amazing given the blatant total lack of understanding about how copyright works Copyright is applied to any form of work with no need for any formal statement required Australian Copyright Council someone created this document and someone owns it which means Kev needs to acknowledge the work or at the very least state that he attempted to get permission He did neither and thinks that he does not need to if there is not little copyright c on the document What really astonishes me is that Kevin Cummins is employed by the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat Victoria http www ceoballarat catholic edu au as the education officer for Learning Technologies http ict ceoballarat catholic edu au which means he works with schools across the diocese advising them on the approrpaite and responsible use of technology seriously
