Published on 18th March 2016 in Golf News Members SLOW PLAY It has been noticeable over last few weeks that the speed of play has been an issue and it is apparent that there a several members that believe its ok to fall a fairway or more behind the group that they are following As of this Saturday 12 th March each group is to nominate a player to write on their card the time that they crossed over after 9 holes and what time they finished This is to also to be done on other competition days being Tuesday Thursday Sunday Each group tees off at 7 minutes intervals and based on last year s times finishing 10 minutes behind the group in front will be accepted Also over the coming weeks there will be match committee members situated at the 6 th 15 th tees taking times as well The aim is to eventually have tees times on the score cards for each individual hole Other things that need to be considered with speed of play Calling a group through when looking for a lost ball must be considered If you are going to take the allowed 5 minutes to look for a ball and there is a group waiting behind you then call them through If you find the ball after you have called the group through you still let them to continue playing through Always hit a provisional ball if you are not 100 sure where your ball has landed If you lose a fairway on the group in front due to looking for a ball s it is expected that you would have caught up over the next 2 holes At the tee box your priority is to tee off not mark down your bets bits from the previous hole There are some members have several practise swings and then been timed standing over the ball for 10 15 seconds before commencing their swing There are some that will walk to their ball leave their buggy beside the ball then walk back to the distance markers to pace out how far out they are We suggest you do this when you are walking to your ball Some of the reasons excuses that are mentioned when advising a group that they have dropped off the pace are We didn t realise Is this ignorance towards other players in field The group in front must be running No Your group is just slow We have been looking for balls in the bush that s fine but when that was 5 holes back its unacceptable X is really slow if that is the case then by all means tactfully suggest that they speed their play up We do not expect people to be running It s all about playing smarter and realising where your position in the field is Unlike last year when times were posted on the clubs website the groups will be named If you don
