    the critics Truly sculptural works involving varied tehniques results in contemporary and traditionally inspired works Cody Sanderson was raised in Window Rock Arizona and is of Diné descent His career in jewellery making began in 1999 after several years of working as a traveling sales representative for a jewellery company Cody learned his craft by experimenting asking questions of other jewellers and taking classes on techniques such as tufa casting Cody s first showing at the world renowned Indian Market in Santa Fe in 2002 immediately won the notice of colletors Since then Cody has received numerous prestigious awards and honors including Best of Show 2008 at the Heard Museum for his rendition of a sterling silver Rubik s Cube Cody s work has also been featured in numerous books and magazines including Contemporary Southwestern Jewellery by Diana Pardue and Trend Magazine s Master Artisan s series Cody was awarded Smithsonian and SWAIA Fellowships an honor which only a select few are granted Cody s use of both traditional and contemporary themes provide the inspiration to create truly unique pieces He works primarily in sterling silver and 18 karat gold although he does sometimes enjoy working in aluminium copper stainless

    Internationally acclaimed artists Denise and her family have been creating transformation jewellery since 1977 Inspired by the folk tales and animals of Alaska and the Bearing Sea the jewellery is comprised of carved and scrimshawed fossil walrus ivory in varying hues of white and caramel with semi precious stones set into gold and silver The transformative power contained in the ancient stories of the arctic native peoples seems to have reached accross the centuries to find expression in the lives and works of the Wallace family Master jewellers whose pieces depict icons and legends inspired by old Bering Sea culture the Wallaces possess an almost mystical ability to wrest continuity from disparate elements gold and silver culture and design desert silver inlaid with fossil ivory the deep blue lapis lazuli beside the swirling green of malacite The jewellery of Denise and Samuel Walace can be appreciated for its exquisitely crafted objects of art as a window into the culture of the arctic people and as visual stories with the motif of transformation Combining their respective expertise in metalwork and lapidary Denise a Chugach Eskimo Aleut born in 1957 and her non native husband Samuel born in 1936 create wearable art
