day in other industries I think the difference with a travel career is that you get to create dreams for people Some people come in and don t know what they want to do and so you get to put together amazing trips for them that really do make their dreams come true When they come back and thank you it s a great feeling 2 What would be your top piece of advice for someone new to the job Make sure you re passionate about travel If you re not passionate you won t succeed I find that you can teach everything else but you can t teach passion and personality It s so important to show passion and personality as soon as a customer comes through the door you have to be genuine interested and listen If you get that right you ll have customers coming back time and time again 3 What s been the best thing you ve learnt recently Agents can be doing well right now by working smarter not harder We can be spending time on higher yield bookings where people want advice and someone to help them Some people are happy to make domestic bookings themselves but I ve seen that agents have a solid role in giving advice I find that I m learning all the time We do use CPS for training and I think everything they teach is just amazing 4 How do you think travel agents make a difference Try to ring the internet if you have a problem You can t The internet is a great research tool but if someone comes in and they haven t booked there s a reason for that Maybe they re not sure of the options or maybe they re uneasy about

travel agent are constantly high and the consequences of mistakes are even higher Knowing how to manage time is a core skill for any seasoned tourism travel or hospitality worker Many people ask me for my opinion on the plight of the travel agent over the next 5 years and I can honestly say that it s a matter of time What do you value most At the moment customers are researching reviewing rating and booking their travel experiences online This is common and has proven useful However for those who value time a travel agent can give you a load of time back in your day Here s how Try Googling Villa in France I did recently and over 166 000 000 results were returned Taking the time to trawl through those results looking for the gem is impossible A good travel agent will know where the gems are buried and can often book you in with great rates Say if you paid attention to an online review it s often difficult to know where the bar is set Did the 14 people who reviewed that restaurant have the same standards as I do Were they employees If they are negative reviews are they family of that restaurant s competitors It s often hard to tell A good travel agent will be your taste and standard barometer and over time can book you in to places they know you ll love Ever tried to run the gauntlet at LAX Heathrow Get from domestic to International at Sydney We all have And many a traveller has fallen foul of the time demands this sort of tap dancing requires Again a good travel agent is a great assessor of time and can schedule arrangements to take all many of complexities into
