but some also experiences them as early as 9 months Some night terrors episodes can last in as little as 2 minutes and some as long as half an hour or more most of the time the child will not have a memory of the event When your child has a nightmare they usually become fully awake and can easily remember their dream Whenever a child has a nightmare you can easily reassure them of your presence Nightmares usually occur in the stages of REM around 2am 6am Night terrors on the other hand occurs earlier in their nights sleep typically soon after they fall sleep Causes Of Night Terrors There is no known cause why some children experience night terrors Experts however say that there are events or experiences that may contribute to an episode These events may include changes in sleeping schedule changing to a new school moving home stress and anxiety Children who are not able to get their desired right amount of sleep are more prone to this kind of sleeping problem Comforting A Child Suffering Night Terror Night terrors are usually more stressful to the carers than the child Since they are not fully awake they may not even be aware that they are having night terrors For night terrors that cause your child to thrash or scream holding your kid may only make him thrash more Some tips you could consider trying are giving them a bottle to try to make them go to deeper sleep For children who moan or cry you can try taking them to another room to rouse them slowly If he or she is trashing around make sure that you take out hard objects like toys from the bed Try to put something soft like a pillow between your child s head and the headboard If your child is a sleepwalker you should take further precaution by securing them in their bed and make sure there are no toys or other objects lying near the foot of the bed that may cause them to stumble or fall when they do start sleepwalking Preventing Your Child From Having Night Terrors Helping in preventing your child from having a night terror can be done with some simple preventative steps mostly it is about changing sleeping patterns to help avoid the night terrors Children who are tired or stressed before going to bed are more likely to experience this kind of problem hence it is a good idea to expose your child to a consistent bedtime ritual that can help calm them Younger children need more sleep for toddlers you may want to encourage naptime during the day so they don t get over tired and ensure they achieve enough sleep if a 24hr period if they don t seem to be getting it during the night NOTE The information given here on Night Terrors Calming Solutions is meant as a guide only and does not replace professional medical advice and information

  • Parenting Tips Every Kid Wish You Knew | How To Be A Better Parent
you get mad it must be the behavior they have shown Do not humiliate them by publicly scolding choose a time and place where you can talk to your kids regarding their behavior try not to act in the heat of the moment you too can be irrational when angry Take the time to listen to them Be part of your kids life make sure you set aside time to talk about matters affecting them and what s going on in their life Be firm Impose regulations kids need boundaries when imposing or enforcing rules control your temper just as you should when giving punishments don t let it become personal Let your child understand the reason behind the rules and their punishment let them learn the consequences of their own actions Set an example Kids notice everything as parent you are your kids first role model Beware of what you say or do and remember to listen to them so that they will listen to you This includes removing bad habits such as smoking and drinking not only is allowing your child to see you indulge in these habits being a bad role model but it may also affect your child s health Make them feel safe Make them feel a part of something give them sense of belonging Respect their boundaries Being a parent doesn t mean you can invade their privacy threat them as you would like to be treated and respected Do not argue in front of your kids Kids feel insecure and fearful when they see their parents arguing and shouting in front of them Avoid rescuing them You do not need to be their superhero every time they need help or problems solved growth is about learning from mistakes and this can t be done if they have someone solve every issue they have for them That teaches them nothing other than if something isn t working then someone else will take care of it this is not how the real world works Allow your kids to experience life as it is in the big bad world do not run their lives allow them to make decisions and learn from the outcomes of the decisions and choices they make Set order Set limits in what they are doing Encourage responsibility by giving tasks and jobs set punishments and or rewards for completion or failure to complete the tasks this is also how the world works Spend quality time with your kids Every child is different and has specific needs make sure to attend to each of your children as individuals by giving special time to each and all of your children Talk with them constantly and encourage them to be open with you about their thoughts and feelings The bottom line is you should not be afraid to be a parent Being a parent is not about being your child s friend you can play with them and spend quality time with them as

  • Miscarriage: The Facts |
we don t know how many women miscarry before having a pregnancy test and or the fertilised egg may not even have implanted when they miscarry and obviously as a result of this and other reasons many women may never report their miscarriage clinically The risk of miscarriage is highest immediately after implantation it is thought that around 50 of all fertilised eggs do not survive where women simply come away with a normal or slightly late period which is why some figures suggest that it could be many as one in three or around 1 2 of all pregnancies end in miscarriage While a miscarriage can happen at any time during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy they more commonly occur around the times the woman s subsequent periods would have been due That is around 4 8 and 12 and 16 weeks of their pregnancy The good news is that the further into the pregnancy you are the less chance you have of miscarrying Most miscarriages occur before the thirteenth week of pregnancy Miscarriage A Self Check Process Miscarriage can be considered part of the biological process of pregnancy most miscarriages occur in the first trimester and are thought to happen as somewhat of a body self check where genetic abnormalities chromosomal abnormalities in the baby are picked up and the pregnancy is expelled rather than it being any thing the woman may or may not have done during the pregnancy 97 Of Women Who Miscarry Go On To Have A Baby Most women do go on after a miscarriage to have babies around 97 go on at a later stage to have a healthy baby however a very small percentage don t somewhere around 3 of women and between two and five percent of couples experience recurrent pregnancy loss which means they have been through three or more miscarriages consecutively In only about 30 of these recurrent loses can a treatable cause can be identified Women who experience one miscarriage are not more likely to experience another even women who have recurrent miscarriages three or more still up to 75 of them will have a subsequent normal pregnancy and baby Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to prevent miscarriage but it s important to get medical advice to ensure you are not in any danger Speaking generally in Australia if you have a miscarriage reasoning why will not be routinely investigated unless you have had three in a row or you are over 35 years old Statistically because 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage it is considered that your first or second miscarriage is just one of those very unfortunate things that happens to many women Thankfully from reading above you can see that the statistics are in your favor the majority of women who experience miscarriage even multiple miscarriage s go on to have beautiful healthy little babies in the future IF YOU LIKED THIS YOU MAY BE INTERESTED
